Patrick's II -- 25-year tradition of great bands, booze, & bullarney

Patrick's II
Larry Matranga
A few years after Prohibition ended in 1933, the Irish themed PATRICK'S pub opened for business on the corner of 4 th and F Street, in the red-light district of downtown San Diego. It soon became a popular place and is remembered fondly by many of the sailors and Marines headed overseas during World War II.

PATRICK'S was purchased in 1976 by the Matranga family during an era of decline for the downtown area. Despite being located between a massage parlor and an adult bookstore, Larry and Tina Matranga sensed that the area had the potential to become something big. Four years after establishing their business, PATRICK'S was dealt a major set back when a fire left the bar in ruins. Vowing to re-build, Larry moved next door to the historic Keating Building where PATRICK'S II now resides.

About that time the City of San Diego decided that downtown was not meant to be a slum and the Gaslamp Quarter was born. Starting with the well known "Fro Brigham Preservation Band" on Thursday nights, the area's entertainment began. PATRICK'S II was the only place downtown with "live" music for a number of years. Gradually, the area grew and so did PATRICK'S II, eventually reaching their current format of live music every day of the year.

Over the years PATRICK'S II has become known as The Premier Blues Club in San Diego, bringing in talent from all over the country as well as the thriving local music scene. Warm, comfortable, and fun describe this Irish pub, whether you are drinking a pint of Guinness, dancing the night away or just getting mellow to some good blues, PATRICK'S II is the place to come home to.
